Hi! I am Sarah. I was introduced to yoga when I was 19 years old and diagnosed with Lyme's Disease. I ached with arthritis and was impaired with severe fatigue. To top it off, the medications made me feel even worse, not better. I was fortunate to have a doctor that suggested I look into yoga for physical and mental relief. I had to travel over 40 miles each way to the nearest Hatha Yoga Class, and I was hooked. Even more interesting, I did my first meditation as a 10 year old at sleep away camp. I loved it so much I asked the teacher to make me a tape so I could practice at home! I treasured this tape until many years later it warped. I didn't know that what I was doing was called meditation, so when I was reintroduced to the practice as a young adult, it was the ultimate “A-Ha” moment.
I have several yoga and meditation teaching certifications and have studied with many wise and remarkable teachers. Through each experience I have learned how to share a meaningful and purposeful yoga practice. From my own beginning, I have always known that yoga is not just a practice, it is a powerful vehicle that can be used for transformation. With this knowledge I felt it was my responsibility, my purpose, to master this ability and share it with the world.
In 2004 I opened the first yoga studio in Bethesda for children called, Yoga Tales. In 2006 I wrote the yoga based curriculum and established the yoga program for an online education program. In 2007 I closed the studio and continued to teach (and learn) at Walter Reed National Medical Military Center. In 2017, after studying with Molly Lannon Kenny for over 13 years, I graduated an extensive 1000 hour training to become an Integrated Movement Therapist. I am now a licensed yoga therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
In addition to seeing private clients and teaching yoga classes in the Bethesda/Potomac area, I am a writer for various health and wellness publications and love sharing my passion for yoga and healthy living on my YogaFairy Blog. Thank you for taking the time to visit my website, I look forward to connecting with you!
